The South Dakota State Railroad Authority shall have the power to acquire property and to construct, maintain and equip railroad facilities as the Legislature declares to be in the public interest for railroad purposes. This Authority was authorized when the state purchased it's core line. The seven members are appointed to four-year terms by the governor.
