S.D. Hwy 73 & S.D. Hwy 20 Shoulder Widening

FAITH, S.D. – Zandstra Construction, Inc., a contractor with the South Dakota Department of Transportation, is scheduled to begin work Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, on South Dakota Highway 73 in Perkins County.

Shoulder-widening operations will begin at the Highway 73 west junction with U.S. Highway 212 and continue north for 36 miles to the north junction of state Highway 73 and Highway 20.

The scheduled work will affect traffic starting on Monday, Feb. 20. The dates are subject to change, depending on weather conditions.

Traffic will be reduced to a single lane and controlled with flaggers and a pilot car. Motorists can expect up to 15-minute delays, loose gravel, shoulder drop offs, and equipment crossing or entering the highway.

The contractor may have up to three crews working at any one time, each with their own lane closure and delay up to 15 minutes. This could potentially cause motorists up to 45 minutes in delays on that stretch of Highway 73.

Motorists are advised to slow down in the construction area and be aware of large equipment, construction workers, and directional signing.

The overall completion date for the project is Nov. 2, 2012.
