Work Begins on Interstate 90 near Piedmont

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Beginning today, (Monday, March 19), work will begin on western Interstate 90 between Piedmont and Black Hawk on safety improvements and installation of an asphalt surface over the existing concrete pavement.

Crews will start in the westbound lane near mile marker 50 west of Black Hawk and will do pipe work on the inslope of the outside shoulder. The right shoulder will be closed as the work zone progresses westward toward Piedmont.

Concrete repair and slope-flattening work will begin the first week of April. Traffic will encounter intermittent lane closures on I-90 during the work.  The speed limit on I-90 in this work zone will be reduced to 65 mph and further reduced to 45 mph when workers are present.

This project is scheduled to be complete on July 25th.
