Work to Begin on I-90 from Mount Vernon to the James River

MITCHELL, S.D. – Pavement reconstruction work will begin on Interstate 90 from Mount Vernon to the James River on Monday, April 2.

The existing concrete pavement will be removed and reconstructed with new, thicker concrete. The westbound lanes will be reconstructed in 2012, and the eastbound lanes will be reconstructed in 2013.

Contractors will begin by preparing the eastbound lanes for head-to-head traffic.  During this phase of construction, eastbound traffic will be restricted to one lane.

Work is scheduled to begin on concrete removal in the westbound lanes on Monday, April 9.  During that phase of construction, traffic will be head-to-head in the eastbound lanes, and speeds will be reduced to 65 MPH and further reduced to 55 MPH between exits 330 and 332 in Mitchell.

Work on the westbound lanes is expected to be completed by Nov. 2, 2012.

The Prime Contractor is Knife River Midwest of Sioux City, Iowa.
