Work Begins on Interstate 90 near Wasta and Wall

RAPID CITY, S.D. – On Tuesday, April 17, crews will begin work on the Interstate 90 bridges over the Cheyenne River near Wasta.

Work will next move to the bridges on I-90 over the DM&E railroad near Wall.

Lane closures will be set up in both directions of travel near Wasta to complete profile grinding and epoxy chip-seal coating on the Cheyenne River bridges.

The same operation will move to the bridges at Wall and tentatively begin Thursday, April 19.

A 12-foot width restriction will be in place for the bridge work. Vehicles over 12-ft. wide will be routed onto Highway 44 between Exit 61 (at Rapid City) and Exit 192 (at Murdo).  The width restriction will be in effect until July 31.

The speed limit on I-90 in the work zones will be reduced to 65 mph and further reduced to 45 mph when workers are present.

Motorists are reminded that fines are double in work zones, and drivers should be aware of slowing traffic, construction equipment and workers.
