Public Information Meeting on Flood Control Permit for Twin Lakes

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) will hold a public informational meeting in Volga to discuss a flood-control permit submitted to the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

The meeting will be held Thursday, April 26, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Volga Community Center, 109 Samara Avenue. A presentation will be given shortly after 6 p.m. by SDDOT staff, who will then answer questions and address any concerns.

The permit requests approval to provide a permanent means of addressing high water from Twin Lakes along U.S. Highway 81, south of Arlington.

The state Department of Transportation proposes to leave, in place, the existing channel and controlled, gated pipe that was installed in 2011 through a drainage permit with Brookings County.

Notice is further given to all individuals with disabilities that this meeting will be held in a physically accessible place. Please notify the ADA Coordinator at SDDOT at least 48 hours prior to the public meeting if you have special needs for which the department will need to make arrangements. The telephone number for making special arrangements is 605-773-3540 or 1-800-877-1113 (Telecommunication Relay Services for the Deaf).
