YANKTON, S.D. –  The South Dakota Department of Transportation advises motorists that the westbound lane reconstruction project on Highway 50 from Vermillion to Gayville will begin on Tuesday, May 15.

The work consists of completely removing and replacing the existing surface, widening the roadway, and constructing asphalt concrete shoulders.

Beginning Tuesday (May 15), depending on the weather, traffic will be placed head-to-head on the eastbound lanes for the duration of the project.

Reconstruction completion is scheduled for late this fall.

Knife River Midwest of Sioux City, Iowa, is the prime contractor on the $13.2 million Highway 50 project in Clay County.
