Work on U.S. Highway 14 West of Huron

HURON, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says work will begin on U.S. Highway 14 west of Huron on Monday, July 2.

The project will begin at the end of the four-lane highway west of Huron and move west for 4-point-3 miles to 393rd Avenue.

The contractor will begin with concrete patching, shoulder preparation and other miscellaneous work in two-mile stretches. During that work, flaggers will control traffic during daylight hours and motorists can expect up to 10-minute delays.

About July 20, the contractor will begin placing a Portland concrete cement overlay on the entire four-mile stretch of Highway 14. Flaggers will then control traffic around the clock, and motorists can expect up to 20-minute delays.

The majority of work is to be completed by Aug. 24, prior to the South Dakota State Fair, with both eastbound and westbound lanes open to traffic.

The prime contractor on the $3.2 million project is Upper Plains Contracting, Inc. of Aberdeen.
