Work On I-90 Eastbound Lanes From Oacoma To Chamberlain

MITCHELL, S.D. – Work will begin Monday (Aug. 6) west of Oacoma in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 from mile marker 258 west to Exit 265 at Chamberlain, according to the South Dakota Department of Transportation.

Prior to the Monday closure, traffic will be reduced to single lanes in both the eastbound and westbound lanes on Friday (Aug. 3). Speeds will be reduced to 55-mph and no passing will be allowed.

Traffic will be placed head-to-head in the westbound lanes late in the morning of Aug. 6 and speeds will be reduced to 55 mph.

Eastbound traffic will be unable to exit at the Chamberlain Rest Area or Exit 263 at Chamberlain while traffic is head-to-head in the existing westbound lanes.

The construction includes removing the existing asphalt, placing a concrete overlay in the eastbound lanes, as well as some work on structures in the work zone.

The prime contractor is Upper Plains Contracting, Inc. of Aberdeen; the work expected to be done by Nov. 2.
