CUSTER, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation will begin a highway improvement project Monday, Aug. 13, on South Dakota Highway 87 in Custer State Park.

The work on Highway 87 will cover an area from near Blue Bell Lodge north to the Black Hills Playhouse Road. The first week of the project will involve milling the asphalt surface and completing spot repairs. That will be followed by new asphalt concrete surfacing and pavement markings.

Traffic will be maintained with flaggers and pilot cars, with delays of up to 15 minutes possible.

Bituminous Paving of Ortonville, Minn., is the contractor on the $1.6 million project.
