Highway 85 Chip Seal Project
BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation will begin a chip-seal application project on U.S. Highway 85 north of Belle Fourche on Tuesday, Aug. 14.
The work will be done from mile markers 68 to 79, and will begin with application of the main highway chip seal, shoulder chip seal, flush seal application, and striping.
The estimated date to complete all of the work is Aug. 31, weather permitting.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane and guided through the project by flaggers and a pilot car. A delay of up to 15 minutes can be expected while traveling through the work area during daytime hours. Travelers should consider alternate routes.
Loose gravel will be present for a period of 36 to 48 hours after each day’s chip-seal application. Motoristis should travel at 40 mph during that time.
Hills Materials Company of Rapid City is the prime contractor on the project.
