Traffic Switch on the Truck Route in Pierre

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation will switch traffic on U.S. 14 / U.S. 83 truck bypass (Garfield Ave.) in Pierre on Tuesday, Aug. 14, from south of Oak Street to the south end of the project.

Traffic will be placed head-to-head in the new southbound lanes on that section of the project while the northbound lanes are reconstructed.

Once the section south of Oak Street is paved, the entire length of the project will be paved with one more layer of asphalt, using single-lane closures.

The overall completion date for the project is Oct. 15.

The contractor anticipates the paving work to be done in early September, followed by placement of permanent pavement marking tape.

Duininck, Inc. of Prinsburg, Minnesota, is the contractor on the $10.8 million project, which also includes the Highway 83  paving project in Lyman County from Interstate 90 northward.
