RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation will begin bridge repair work on U.S. Highway 16B and South Dakota Highway 44 beginning Monday, (Sept. 17).

Highway 16B has three bridges:

  • near mile-marker 73 over the railroad on Elk Vale
  • near mile-marker 70 over Highway 44
  • near mile-marker 70 over Rapid Creek

Highway 44 has one bridge:

  • near mile-marker 46 over Rapid Creek, west of Lacrosse Street

The work involves epoxy chip seal overlays on the decks of all four bridges. The Highway 44 structure will also have approach paving, joint repair, and bridge rail modification.

Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in both directions with a 16-foot-width restriction.

Flaggers will be used during construction activities.  Motorists should expect minor delays during daytime operations.
