Project Update For Jackson Boulevard Reconstruction In Rapid City
RAPIDCITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says work in Rapid City on the first phase of the Jackson Boulevard project is coming to a close for the season.
Crews have completed the temporary widening work in the eastbound lanes of Jackson Boulevard. Surfacing of the approaches into businesses west of South Mountain View Road should be completed by Oct. 19, weather permitting.
Grading for the city’s utility contract near Jackson Pond and the Frisbee Golf Course is also nearing completion.
Maintenance patching of the existing surface on Jackson Boulevard will continue this month, with additional patching done as needed during the winter months. The patching will require short-term lane closures to complete the work.
Storm sewer work will begin in January, weather permitting. That work will start near Plant Street and require a westbound lane closure on Jackson Boulevard.
Next spring, the mainline reconstruction will begin with crews removing pavement in the westbound lanes of Jackson Boulevard, and traffic will then be moved into the eastbound lanes and be reduced to one lane in each direction.
A public meeting will be held in early December to discuss the 2013 work on Jackson Boulevard. More information on the meeting will be available next month.
Heavy Constructors is the prime contractor on the $11 million project. The overall completion date is June 28, 2014.
