I-90 Eastbound Reconstruction Near Spearfish

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says reconstruction of the eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 near Spearfish will begin April 1, with preliminary work at Exit 10 starting this Thursday, Feb. 28.

The project includes removal and replacement of the eastbound lanes of I-90 from mile markers 9 to 18, or approximately Exit 10 to Exit 17.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction and placed in the westbound lanes during construction.

The first phase beginning April 1 will replace the pavement from Exit 10 to Exit 14. Traffic will be restored with all lanes open for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally from July 24 through Aug. 11.

The second phase will begin after the rally and replace the pavement from Exit 14 to about one mile east of Exit 17. This project does not include replacement of the pavement on either side of the Exit 14 interchange.

The overall completion date for the $12.4 million project is Dec. 20, and the prime contractor is Heavy Constructors Inc. of Rapid City.

There will be a Public Information Meeting/Open House on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Hudson Hall in Spearfish beginning at 5:30 p.m. MST.
