Work to Begin on Highway 14 in Huron

HURON, S.D. – Work to place an asphalt overlay on U.S. Highway 14 in Huron will begin on Monday, April 8, according to the South Dakota Department of Transportation.

The project includes placing an asphalt overlay on Highway 14 from the two-lane section west of Huron to just east of Custer Avenue. Other work includes milling and resurfacing of the service lanes, removal of the Ravine Lake structure on the north service road and new street lighting from Lincoln Ave. to Jersey Ave.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane each direction, and placed head-to-head during some phases of the project.

Motorists can expect merging and suddenly slowing traffic and should be aware of construction equipment and workers.

The prime contractor on this $8 million project is Asphalt Paving and Materials Co. of Huron, and the completion date is October 18.
