Work To Begin On Highway 18 Bridge Near Davis


DAVIS, S.D. – South Dakota Department of Transportation officials are advising motorists that the bridge reconstruction project on Highway 18 west of Davis over the Vermillion River will begin sometime this week (May 6).


Contractors will dismantle the bridge over the river, and the roadway will be closed to traffic.


The work includes removing and replacing the bridge, roadway approach grading, asphalt surfacing, guardrail installation and erosion control.


Highway 18 west of Davis is scheduled to be closed to through-traffic sometime this coming week. Traffic will be detoured around the project via Highway 19 and Highway 44 or Highway 19 and Highway 46.


Local traffic will be maintained through the project.


Construction is expected to be completed by Nov. 15.
