Bridge Deck Work To Begin Around Pierre

PIERRE, S.D. – According to the South Dakota Department of Transportation, crews will begin doing epoxy chip seals on five bridge decks on highways around Pierre on Monday, June 17.

The locations are as follows:

  • Highway 83 at mile marker 167.7 - north of Agar in Potter County
  • Highway 83 at mile marker 118.5 - over the Bad River in Fort Pierre
  • Highway 14 at mile marker 254.8 - east of Blunt in Hughes County
  • Highway 34 at mile marker 223.9 - east of Pierre in Hughes County
  • Highway 34 at mile marker 224.0 - east of Pierre in Hughes County

During the first phase of the project, crews will grind the bridge deck at each site while maintaining traffic with flaggers. The contractor anticipates this portion of the work to be finished in one week.

The next phase of the project will involve concrete bridge deck repairs and an epoxy chip seal at each site.

Traffic will be maintained in one lane across each bridge with the use of temporary traffic signals on the two Highway 34 bridges and temporary stop signs on the Highway 83 bridge in Potter County and the Highway 14 bridge east of Blunt. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained at all times on the Highway 83 bridge in Fort Pierre.

The prime contractor on this $433,628.43 project is Corr Construction Services of Hermosa.

The overall completion date for the project is October 18, but the contractor anticipates work to be done by August.
