6th Street Construction Continues in Brookings

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The 6th Street project from 8th Street north to Main Avenue in Brookings is scheduled to progress into Phase three on Wednesday, July 3.

Phase three includes pavement removal and underground utility installations from 2nd Avenue to Main Avenue in Brookings. The local detour for this part of the project is 5th Avenue and 8th Street.

Paving operations continue from Hughes Avenue to 1st Avenue. Once complete, traffic will be routed back to 6th Street at 2nd Avenue.

Through traffic and over width traffic will continue to be detoured on Interstate 29 and the Highway 14 bypass.

Motorists are asked to slow down in construction zones and allow extra travel time when using these routes.

Business signs on local detour routes will help direct the local traffic to access points.

Weekly meetings to discuss progress and sequencing are open to the public to keep people informed and address concerns.  Meetings are being held every Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Department of Transportation office in Brookings.
