Main Avenue Intersection To Close In Brookings

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The 6th Street project in Brookings from 8th Street north to Main Avenue is scheduled to progress into the intersection of Main Avenue on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

The intersection of Main Avenue and 6th Street will be closed to traffic for approximately 21 days to allow for utility installations and new surfacing.

The local detour will be 5th Avenue, 8th Street and 1st Avenue. Through traffic and over-width traffic will continue to be detoured on I-29 and the Highway 14 bypass.

Business signs will continue to be in-place along local detour routes to help direct the local traffic to access points for the affected businesses.

No parking will be allowed along the detour routes for the duration of the project and will be signed accordingly. Motorists will want to allow extra travel time when using these routes.

Business signs will continue to be in-place along local detour routes to help direct local traffic to access points for the affected businesses.

The contractor and DOT continue to conduct weekly meetings to discuss project progress and sequencing. Meetings are open to the public and are held every Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Department of Transportation in Brookings.
