Custer Sidewalk and Traffic Signal Upgrades

CUSTER, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation will begin sidewalk improvement and traffic signal upgrade work along Highway 16 / Mt. Rushmore Road in Custer beginning Thursday, Oct. 10.

Pedestrian traffic will be affected at times, but two-way traffic will be maintained on the street during construction.

As work progresses on the traffic signals, temporary four-way stops will be installed at the signalized intersections of 8th Street, 5th Street and Centennial Drive/Highway 385.

The overall completion date for this project is Dec. 1, depending on weather.

The prime contractor on this $1,033,279 project is Stanley J. Johnsen Concrete Company, Inc. of Rapid City.

Motorists are asked to slow down and drive with caution through the work zone area and be aware of equipment, workers and pedestrians adjacent to the driving lane.
