Construction To Begin On I-29 At The Madison Street Interchange

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Starting Tuesday, April 15, the South Dakota Department of Transportation will begin structure repair work on the Interstate 29 interchange over Madison Street in Sioux Falls.

Work includes structure repair, epoxy chip seal, approach pavement removal and replacement, and concrete pavement repair. Work will be done simultaneously on both the north- and southbound structures.

Traffic will be reduced to two lanes in each direction through the work zones with a reduced speed limit from 65 mph to 55 mph. Motorists are reminded that fines are double in work zones.

The contractor plans to complete work at the Madison Street interchange in mid-July and will then move to the Benson Road interchange on I-29 to complete work from last year at that location.

Motorists can expect delays and should be aware of construction equipment, workers, and suddenly slowing and merging traffic.

The prime contractor for the $1.8 million project is Heavy Constructors Inc. of Rapid City.

The overall completion date for work on all structures is the end of August.
