VERMILLION, S.D. - South Dakota Department of Transportation officials says crews will begin asphalt pavement overlay work on the eastbound lanes of Highway 50 from Vermillion to Interstate 29 this week (July 31).

Work involves milling the existing asphalt surfacing and overlaying with new asphalt pavement in the eastbound lanes only in advance of the divided highway sections. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane and traffic speeds will be reduced to 45 mph through the work zone.

The contractor will also be completing an asphalt pavement overlay from Interstate 29 to the intersection of highway 50 and 11 within the current roadway closure.

Commercial Asphalt of Mitchell is the prime contractor on the $3.8 million project.

All work is expected to be completed by Sept. 1.
