YANKTON, S.D. - South Dakota Department of Transportation officials say drivers will see a new intersection warning system at the intersection of highways 46 and 37 south of Tripp.

Drivers approaching the intersection will see amber flashing lights only when traffic is approaching the intersection. The new system replaces an overhead flashing light system that flashed continuously and will be removed at a later date.

Officials would like to remind the traveling public that Highway 46 traffic will still be required to stop at the intersection while Highway 37 traffic has the right of way and crosses without stopping.

“Driver safety is our number one priority in the department,” says Scott Jansen, Mitchell Region traffic engineer. “This warning system is another way to keep drivers safe and hopefully reduce the number of rural intersection crashes.”
