NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Department of Transportation officials say bridge repair work on Interstate 29 over the Big Sioux River in the southeast part of the state will begin tomorrow, Aug. 23.

Contractors will be repairing and upgrading the bridges on Interstate 29 crossing the Big River at the South Dakota & Iowa border. Work involves bridge deck joint repair and overlays, approach pavement replacement and guardrail replacement.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane across the structure during the work. The southbound structure will completed first and the northbound bridge work is scheduled to begin the week of Sept. 4.

Motorists are asked to watch for suddenly slowing and merging traffic, and be aware of construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lane. Traffic will be separated from the work zone by concrete barrier dividers.

PCI Roads LLC of St. Michael, Minnesota, is the prime contractor on the $3.6 million project.

Work is expected to be completed by Nov. 1.
