RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says that the complete reconstruction of West Chicago Street in Rapid City, from west of the Sturgis Road intersection to Sheffer Street, will impact traffic during much of 2018 and part of 2019.

Travelers should expect delays at the intersection of West Chicago Street and Sturgis Road and should consider an alternate route.

There will be bridge deck rehabilitation and bridge widening to construct a sidewalk.  Sidewalk will be constructed along the entire length of the project.

Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, March 26, 2018, at the intersection of West Chicago Street and Sturgis Road.

A city utility project will be constructed in conjunction with this project to install new water main and sanitary sewer.

Work is schedule to be complete on June 28, 2019.

Complete Concrete, Inc. of Rapid City is the prime contractor of this $9.5 million project.

More information, including a website and detour maps, will be provided in the near future to help residents plan routes around the construction zone.
