Roadway Lighting Work Begins Today by Hot Springs and Edgemont

CUSTER, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says a roadway lighting project by Hot Springs and Edgemont will begin Monday, May 21.


The contractor will be working at these two locations:


  • Highway 18 Bypass – two miles, along the Hot Springs Bypass from ShopKo going east to Big Bat’s Gas Station.
  • Highway 18 – one-half mile, at the intersection of Highway 18, Dewey Road, Old Highway 18 and Highway 471


The roadway lighting project will include removing old light poles and foundations, trenching and boring new electrical conduit and installing new light poles and foundations. The final completion date is Oct. 12, 2018.


Motorists are asked to slow down and be aware of suddenly slowing and merging traffic as well as construction workers and equipment that will be working adjacent to the highway’s shoulder.


The prime contractor on this $391,000 project is Muth Electric, Inc of Mitchell.
