TRIPP, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says work is scheduled to begin a project on Highway 18 near Tripp on Monday, April 15.

The first phase of the project includes replacing pipe culverts on Highway 18 from Tripp to Highway 25.

Once the culvert replacement is complete, an asphalt overlay will be placed on Highway 18 from Highway 37 to Highway 25. An asphalt overlay will also be placed on Highway 37 from the Hutchinson County Line to two miles north of Tripp.

Highway 18 will remain open with the use of flaggers and pilot cars. Drivers should expect up to 10-minute delays and plan accordingly or take an alternate route. There will be 11 areas of culvert replacement that will have gravel surfacing until the second phase of work begins to place the asphalt overlay.

Motorists are reminded to slow down in work zones, be prepared for suddenly slowing and stopped traffic, and be aware of construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lane.

The prime contractor for the $4.1 million project is Spencer Quarries Inc. of Spencer.

The contract completion date for the project is Nov. 1, 2019.
