MITCHELL, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says construction of turn lanes just south of Mitchell at the intersection of Highway 37 and the county roads at 256th Street, 258th Street, 259th Street and 260th Street will begin today, May 6.

One lane of Highway 37 will always remain open and traffic guided through the work zones with the use of flaggers and pilot cars. Drivers should expect up to 15-minute delays and plan accordingly.

Motorists are reminded to slow down in work zones, be prepared for suddenly slowing and stopped traffic, and be aware of construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lane.

The prime contractor for the $6.8 million project is BX Civil and Construction of Dell Rapids.

The contract completion date for the project is Nov. 8, 2019.
