McCook County Master Transportation Plan Study

Reason for Study:

As the economy of McCook County continues to become more diversified and the residential development of Sioux Falls metropolitan area continues to grow and expand, a population shift is occurring within McCook County. As a result, traffic levels and patterns within McCook County are also changing. As such, the SDDOT and McCook County have recognized a need to establish baseline conditions, to categorize and prioritize roadways, and determine future transportation improvements for the County.

Study Limits:

The study will examine all the areas of McCook County, with focus on the County Highway System.

Public Involvement

The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) has a long history of public involvement in the development of transportation plans and projects. The 2005 passage of the Safe, Accountable, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) requires a public involvement process. In accordance with the Department's public involvement plan document, the Beadle County Master Transportation Plan Study strives to keep the public involved with the study as much as possible.

Public Meetings

Public meetings for the study will occasionally be scheduled to collect public input, provide information and answer questions. These public meetings will be held in Huron.

Public Meeting #2 - August 8, 2017 - 5:30 - 7 p.m. - Salem Armory, 740 N. Peck St., Salem

Stakeholder Group Meetings

Municipalities and certain business types often have aspects that can have unique impacts to a county's transportation system that can be more thoroughly discussed outside of the public meeting format. As such, stakeholder groups consisting of representatives from the municipalities, large employers, and active trade and transportation oriented organizations within McCook County will be invited to a set of stakeholder meetings that will be held throughout the study period.
